Preemies UK is a voluntary group of ladies led and organised by Shelley Mitchell, who donate their time and talents to the purpose of making items of clothing and bedding for tiny babies who are born too soon. Early babies find it very difficult, if not impossible, to maintain their body temperature so they need clothing that fits well, is warm and is designed to allow for wires and the constant monitoring that happens in NICU's . In a hospital setting there is a high turnover of clothing as it has to be washed at very high temperatures to protect the babies from germs.. |

So clothing doesn't last very long and supplies have to be constantly renewed. Parents of Babies born too soon or born sleeping don't need the worry of finding clothing which is where PreemiesUK comes in.

Currently we supply 100+ hospitals around the UK with parcels of clothing, blankets and other items and the list of hospitals we supply is growing all the time so we are always looking volunteers to join in. Please take a moment to read the Take Part page, even if you can't knit, crochet or sew a stitch you might be surprised at what you can do to help the effort. |
PreemiesUK receives no government funding, everything we do is by donation and volunteer efforts, you can see examples of the work done in the gallery page.
